ETERNA the first high tech shelter bus stop in Rome

In today's world, where the demand for efficient and sustainable transportation options is increasingly critical, improving the bus stop experience can play a pivotal role in boosting overall user satisfaction. By creating more inviting and functional bus stops, we can motivate a greater number of individuals to choose public transport as their preferred mode of travel. Enhanced amenities, clearer information, and a more welcoming environment can transform the perception of public transit, making it a more attractive and accessible choice for everyone.

UPPER living lab Rome has just unveiled 'ETERNA'

The first smart bus shelter was inaugurated last Friday 6 December 2024, in via Nomentana at the Porta Pia stop. It is a unique bus shelter model, created specifically for the capital, to which the name has been dedicated. A shelter offers information and allows you to charge your electronic devices thanks to the USB socket.

The bus shelter as a postcard: a suggestion for tourism

The smart shelters that will be installed in the coming months and in total, by the middle of next year, will be 435 in the Roman territory, are designed both for citizens and for people who come to the capital for tourism. All the information is shown in both Italian and English and on the screen inside the shelter it is also possible to search for places of interest nearby to get an idea of the places to visit and the events to attend.

With the shelter inaugurated in via Nomentana, the Atac 'Smart Stop Plan' officially begins, which includes the installation of 435 new shelters like this one, 405 new digital signs, and the redevelopment of over 9,600 stop systems and 14 termini: at the end of the works, one stop in eight will be talking.

Deputy Mayor Patané: "A new beginning for public transport"

"With the installation of these shelters, the return of trams 2, 3, and 8 to the tracks, and the reopening of metro line A during its regular hours (now closing at 11:30 PM on weekdays instead of 9 PM), public transport is regaining essential components to serve the city. We can now guarantee Roman citizens better accessibility to public transport and greater transparency. The plan, for which I thank Atac, the Sustainable Mobility and Transport department of Roma Capitale and Igp Decaux for the excellent work done, is also important because the traditional shelters that will be removed to make room for the technological ones, where possible, will then be reused at stops that currently do not have them".
